"Atticus ain't ever whipped me since I can remember. I wanta keep it that way." (Jem, p. 62)

This quote shows that the relationship between Jem and Atticus is very understanding and Atticus is a strong beleiver in not smacking his kids. It also shows that Jem and his sister scout value Atticus's trust and dont want to let him down. This shows the amount of value they place on Atticus's trust and dont want to lose it they know he is an understanding man but still dont want to disobey him directly. Atticus probebly relies on this trust to stop Scout and Jem from doing anything extream and to keep them from becoming, like the Ewells, out of control. this trust that Atticus has given Jem and Scout is a excelent way to teach children the value of trust and the value of learning the difference between right and wrong. I also Think Jem and Scout apreciate this trust because it makes them feel as if Atticus is treating them as adults and not as childeren that can't be trusted no matter what. This quote brings to the surface many feeelings such as trust and provides more insight into Jem's mind.
